Family experiences
Bringing home a Cane Corso is a big decision, and most families start with plenty of questions. Read about how other households approached choosing a puppy, preparing for homecoming and settling into life together. If you’re considering a Gatos puppy, we’d be glad to answer your questions.
“I asked so many questions about Luna’s personality before we chose her. They told me she was the quietest of the litter, and they weren’t wrong. She still gets the zoomies, but her favorite thing is curling up next to me after a long day. It’s like we knew her before she walked through the door.”

“We sat down as a family and made a chart for feedings, walks and potty breaks before Bruno came home. The kids argued about whose turn it was, but that chart saved us. Even my husband, who was on the fence, admitted by week two that Bruno was one of the best decisions we’ve made.”

“I was most nervous about delivery day, but Stella arrived calm, clean and with a little blanket that smelled like her mom. The driver walked us through everything again, and by that afternoon she was already exploring the living room. I couldn’t have asked for a smoother start.”

“We booked Duke’s first vet appointment before he arrived, and I carried his folder like a proud dad. The vet said he was in great shape, just a little nervous, which was completely normal. Being that organized made the whole first week feel less chaotic.”

“We kept the first week really quiet. No visitors, just our immediate family. Rosie spent the first afternoon sniffing every corner, then crashed hard. She was a little timid at first, but by evening she was curled up on my feet. Those slow, quiet moments are what I remember most.”

“We’d never owned a guardian breed before, so I was honestly a little intimidated. The Gatos team didn’t sugarcoat it. They told me exactly what training would look like. Odin is almost 11 months now, still working on leash manners, but he’s incredibly gentle with our toddler. I’m so glad I didn’t rush the decision.”

“We taped a checklist to the fridge before Remi came home: crate ready, water bowl filled, vet appointment on the calendar. That list kept me grounded because I was a bundle of nerves. Remi whined a bit the first night, but I just sat by his crate and read. By morning we were best friends.”

“The first week was a blur of accidents and sleepless nights, not gonna lie. We compared notes each evening and realized Milo was actually doing better than we thought. He just needed a solid bedtime routine. By day five he started waiting by the door. Now he’s the king of the house.”

“Cleo was so shy at first. Some days she’d hide behind the couch, other days she’d follow me everywhere. I reminded myself that was normal and didn’t push. It took about three weeks, but now she greets everyone at the dog park like they’re old friends. Patience really paid off.”

“My advice: ask the boring stuff. I asked what Ruby ate, how she slept, what toys she liked. Having those little details made the first days so much smoother. She’s eight months old now and the star of every neighborhood walk. We’re so glad we did it.”
