Preparing your home for a Cane Corso puppy
A puppy changes the shape of an ordinary day. Before choosing bowls or a bed, decide how your household will handle the small tasks that repeat: supervision, meals, toilet breaks, rest, and time together. A practical plan is more useful than a long shopping list.
Plan for the dog your puppy will become
A Cane Corso grows into a strong working dog. The AKC’s suitability guide describes the exercise and mental engagement the breed needs. Think about who will handle a large dog, how you will make room for training, and what support is available when your schedule changes.
Walk through your rooms at puppy height
Move electrical cables, household chemicals, medications, and small objects out of reach. Check doors and gates rather than assuming a boundary is secure. Choose a manageable area where an adult can supervise the puppy without constantly chasing them from room to room.
Make a quiet place for rest and tell everyone that resting puppies should be left undisturbed. Plan supervised introductions to children and resident animals. Decide in advance where each animal can retreat and who will manage the interaction.
Buy for the individual puppy
Ask about current food, feeding amounts, collar or harness fit, and familiar routines before buying supplies. Put bowls, cleaning materials, safe toys, and bedding where the responsible person can find them. Check equipment fit as your puppy grows; the first setup will need adjustment.
Prepare the people and the paperwork
Write a simple weekday plan with named responsibilities. Who takes the puppy out first? Who provides care during work hours? Who can cover an unexpected absence? Keep the plan where everyone can check it.
Gatos provides a care folder and calendar. Keep these with the written health terms, your veterinarian’s details, and homecoming information. Arrange the initial veterinary examination within three days of arrival, as the Gatos policies specify.
Confirm homecoming details
Review the recipient, address, schedule, and transportation arrangements in the full delivery policy. Prepare fresh water, the puppy’s current food, and a calm arrival area. Bring remaining questions into your conversation with us rather than filling gaps with assumptions.
Keep preparing
