Gatos puppy guides
Questions for your Cane Corso puppy’s veterinarian
Your puppy’s first appointment is the beginning of an ongoing care relationship. A written question list helps you use the time well and makes it easier for everyone at home to follow the same plan afterward.
Book ahead and bring the care folder
Gatos’s written policies ask for an examination within three days of arrival. Arrange it before homecoming when possible. Bring the care folder and calendar, vaccination and deworming records, current food details, available microchip information, and any observations since arrival.
The AKC’s first-visit guide discusses establishing veterinary care and preparing for the appointment. Ask the clinic whether it needs previous records in advance and how it prefers new-puppy arrivals to be handled.
Discuss growth and nutrition
Ask which diet is appropriate for your puppy’s expected adult size, how to assess body condition, and when to review feeding amounts. AAHA’s nutrition guidelines recommend food suitable for growth and emphasize lean condition and avoiding excess calcium in large and giant breed puppies. Discuss supplements before adding them.
Write down the agreed food, portion plan, and review date. Ask how treats used in training fit into the overall feeding plan. Your puppy’s individual examination and growth pattern should guide decisions.
Make a preventive-care calendar
Use the AAHA new-puppy checklist to organize questions about vaccinations, parasite prevention, nutrition, behavior, and future care costs. Ask what is due next and which records the clinic wants you to maintain.
Discuss activity, handling, dental care, and safe socialization. Describe the surfaces, animals, and public settings your puppy might encounter so the advice fits the life you actually lead.
Know when and how to call
Ask which changes should prompt an immediate call, which can wait for a routine appointment, and where emergency care is available after hours. Put those contact details where every caregiver can find them. Do not wait for an email reply when urgent treatment is needed.
Read the full Gatos Health Guarantee separately so you understand reporting requirements and records. Veterinary advice determines care; the written policy explains any benefits that may apply. Keep both accessible, along with the appointment notes and next review date.
